Specific objective
-
To discourage individuals or groups from building shelter facilities, explaining all the disadvantages of the shelter model and of allocating the vast majority of monetary and human resources towards rescue as opposed to spay & neuter.
-
To clearly explain to individuals or groups the positive by products of spay & neuter in terms of animal health and well being as well as to stress the importance of holding spay & neuter clinics on a regular basis.
Program description
Through its Outreach Community Program, the McKee Project offers support and guidelines to those communities who express interest in becoming an active part to the solution of dog and cat overpopulation. A McKee training specialist meets with community leaders and presents the recommended work model. McKee representatives then assist the community in organizing and implementing spay & neuter campaigns.
Specifically, the McKee representative works closely with community leaders and animal advocates to assess the current situation, set reasonable and measurable objectives and design the strategies to meet such objectives.
This is a very flexible model, one that can be adapted to a variety of different needs provided that all parties involved understand the requirements in terms of time and resources necessary to succeed.
The program is designed to assist communities in 3 different modalities:
-
Community Support and Counseling
-
Support for Veterinary Clinics
- Volunteer Workshop
