The McKee Project & the Corridor of Compassion

The Corridor of Compassion was officially opened by the 2010 Cycle 4 Strays  charity ride that linked the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah with the McKee Project in Costa Rica.

Purpose of the project is to unite communities and animal organizations that are engaged on a common front: advancing the rights of companion animals, promoting humane methods of population control and helping strays off the streets by placing them in loving homes.

At McKee we hope that the Corridor will be the link that unites dozens of different organizations, making small advocacy groups active in rural areas of impoverished nations feel part of a bigger team, one that, eventually, will end the tragedy of homeless animals whether across town or across the border.

Now a word about sustainability: at McKee we believe that we can show small advocacy groups how to start their own programs and self sustain their own spay and neuter clinics, slowly becoming less dependent on international financial help to continue their work. Hence the creation of McKee Coffee: a fair trade, sustainable effort that generates revenue that is then reinvested into the local economy for the benefit of the community.
